The Team

Kerry Hammerton is a poet, writer and editor. She is a freelance lecturer and supervisor with the Rhodes University School of Languages and Literature on their Master’s in Creative Writing programme. Over the years, she has mentored numerous writers and assisted in completing their creative writing manuscripts. Kerry is the editor of In Other Stories, first published in 2024, a series of anthologies of flash fiction and creative non-fiction. She also facilitates creative writing workshops. Kerry has published poetry and prose in various literary journals and anthologies. Her fourth poetry collection afterwards was published in 2023. Trapped, her debut collection of short stories, is forthcoming.

Karina M. Szczurek is the author and (co)editor of numerous works of fiction and non-fiction. She won the HSS Award for Best Fiction Edited Volume in 2024. She also received the Thomas Pringle Award for a portfolio of ad hoc reviews from the English Academy of Southern Africa in 2018 and won the MML Literature Award in the Category English Drama in 2012. She is a board member of Short Story Day Africa. In 2019, she founded Karavan Press, an independent publishing house, and a year later, established the Philida Literary Award. She lives in Cape Town.
